Even if this year is a warm winter, it is gradually getting cold in Tokyo.
I was eager to escape from the coming winter and the mad crowded train here.
Using the last weekend and my days off in a row, I flew to Ishigaki island in Okinawa, where is the warmest place in Japan.
Arrived at Ishigaki island, I took a local bus to a ferry terminal to go to Taketomi island.
Taketomi is an island where is just 10 minutes away from Ishigaki island by ferry, a beautiful traditional Ryukyu style village.
Since Taketomi Island is very small, people often visit there as one day trip from Ishigaki.
Arrived at Taketomi ferry terminal.
This is the entrance of Taketomi island, a visitor center.
On the way to the village.
You can walk from the ferry terminal and it takes only 10 minutes or so.
The beautiful traditional Ryukyu style village.
Tropical flowers are everywhere!
This is the only one post office in the island.
It looks so cute that you can see Okinawa lion statues, called shisa, on top of the roof.
Shisa is often placed on the roof or at the entrance of the house as talisman against evil.
Shisa is always a pair as female and male.
The female shisa opens a mouth to invite fortune and the male shisa closes a mouth to protects the house from evil.
The one who closes a mouth is male shisa.
The one who opens a mouth is female.
This pair of shisa was placed in front of a guest house.
This one .....? opens a mouth and holding a bottle of beer in front of a restaurant. hahaha.
Continue to the episode 2.
Have a nice week!
