It's New year eve!!!

Hello, This is Yuki @ Shinjuku Business Gareden.

How are you?
I can't believe that it is already the last day of 2012!

How was your 2012?
It was such a special year for me!
I can't tell you why now...but I'll tell you someday--! :D

As I've already written on my past blog.
On new years eve, Many Japanese people stayed at home
prepare new year plates and eat Toshikoshi Soba(year-crossing noodle)
as a new year eve dinner.
At 12:00 a.m., people visit to a shrine for wishing the great new year.

Well, I hope everyone will spend the great last day of 2012!

See you in 2013!

Hi!

This is Ryoko from Yotsuya Business Garden.

I went to the ginkgo festival held in the national stadium.

This place is often used for TV dramas.

It's really beautiful to see from the center of the street.

With the sunshine, the color of leaves looks gold!!

Also, fallen leaves cover the street like a carpet.

Foods are so nice, too!!

Today's Shibuya lunch

Hi, everyone! How are you?
This is Shibuya Business Garden.

What's your favorite cuisine?
Mine is ethnic food!

Today, I went out to Com Pho (Vietnamese food) for lunch.
This place is located on B2 in Tokyu Plaza, and Business Garden staff's favorite!

I had spicy rice noodle with fresh spring roll and almond jelly.

If you like fresh bean sprouts, coriander and bits of fried tempura batter,
you can put them on top of the noodle.

It's me who took almost half of the container of fresh bean sprouts and coriander!
I love how they taste with spicy rice noodle.

I have too much appetite and found out I have gained 5kg with in a year.
Noooo it just cares me when I think about how much more I'll eat during this coming
holiday season. hahaha....

Let's study "Japanese custom"-SUMIMASEN-

Hello, This is Yuki @ Shinjuku Business Garden.

How are you?
I see many people putting the mask to avoid a flu.(or not to spread a flu)
in the train.
The best way to avoid getting cold which my mother told me is...to put the heat pad(Hokkairo)
on your back! Warm up your back is the best way to warm up your whole body!
....well, It is just a my mother's best way...I don't know if it is really the best way (^^;;

Lat week, I wrote about Condescension as one of Japanese customs.
This week, I will write about "SUMIMASEN".

SUMIMASEN has a lot of meanings in Japanese...
It sometimes means..."I'm sorry...", "Excuse me...", or just to call out someone whom
you don't know the name. (for example, to call out the waiter at the restaurant.)

So SUMIMASEN doesn't always mean apology.

Since SUMIMASEN show a lot of meanings, many people are confused with
using 'I'm sorry' or 'Excuse me' when they say it in English.

The most popular(?) one is.. When you pass right in front of someone,
You will say "Excuse me" in English. But people sometimes use "I'm sorry"!
Even there is nothing they are sorry about!

Since SUMIMASEN can use for many situation.
SUMIMASEN is very confusing phrase for Japanese when we
translate in English!

See you next week!

Hi, everyone!
This is Shibuya Business Garden.

It's getting much colder these days.

My today's lunch was Sasahachi's rice ball lunch box.

There are 2 rice balls, simmered vegetables, and boiled fish.

Let's study "Japanese custom"condescension-

Hello, This is Yuki @ Shinjuku Business Garden.

How was your weekend?
I stayed at home whole day during the weekend...as usual.
It was snowing at my home town Shinga!
How about your place?

Last week, I wrote about Japanese way of cerebrating New Year.
This week, I will write about "Condescension".

You may confuse this tricky custom when you come to Japan.
Japanese people consider condescension as a virtue.

The most popular example of condescension is.....
When people give the present to someone, we mostly say

"たいした物ではありませんが、、(Taishta monodeha arimasenga)"

It's not fancy, but I got it for you....

We don't really mean it, but it is the formal way to say
when we give something to someone.

Well, this is kind of tricky custom!

See you next week!

X'mas in Australia!

Hi, This is Yuki from Business Garden Yotsuya Annex.

How was your weekend??

Have you already prepared everything for Christmas??

I guess each countries Christmas is slightly different.

In western culture, usually people spend X'mas day at home with family.
In Japan, people go out for meals more than staying in at home.

When I used to live in the Gold Coast (Australia), I had a great Summer X'mas!!!

I'd never seen Santa with shirts before them!

And when I went to the beach, many people were wearing.... Santa hats!!?

And a surfer as well!

I took these pictures when I was in Surfers Paradise.

The views were so funny and it was a great experience!
I couldn't imagine a 'Summer Xmas' before I went to Australia!

How does your country celebrate Christmas???

Let's study "Japanese custom"! -New Year!-

Hello, This is Yuki @ Shinjuku Business Garden.

How was your weekend?
It was freezing cold in Tokyo during the weekend!

I went for the class which teaches about Aroma therapy!
It was such a good opportunity knowing about the great power
that nature has!

Well, last time I wrote about Japanese way of cerebrating Christmas.
Today, I will write bout "New Year"!

New Year eve(12/31) and new year(1/1) are the big event for Japanese people.

There are many different way of cerebrating depending on the each district
...but I will introduce you mine!
I am from Shiga prefecture which is in Kansai area..so many of people from here
are cerebrating in the same way..I think.

On the New year eve...
All the family members are busy with doing the cleaning up.
We have to take away all the dust from past year and prepare for
coming year!

In the evening, mother is busy with preparing new year dishes.
Father and kids are watching special TV program for new year eve.

Bit before 0:00 am, we start eating Soba noodle! It is called
"Toshikoshi Soba"(年越しそば)

On the new year morning, we do not greet in the usual way(Ohayogozaimasu),
we say "Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu"(means Happy new year!)

and during January 1st to 3rd, we usually eat Osechi dishes(special dishes for
new year).

On this day, new year greeting cards will be arrive from relatives and friends, and
kids will get Otoshidama New Year's gift money!

There are so many fun events during New year!
I can't wait the new year day coming in 1 month---!

Sightseeing in Tokyo!

Hi, This is Yuki from Business Garden Yotsuya Annex.

How was your weekend??

How many sightseeing places in Tokyo do you know?
Last week, I took my family to some famous places in Tokyo.

<Tsukiji fish market>

It is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market  in the world.
Also, it is a popular attraction for foreign visitors.

<Asakusa  Senso-ji>

In Asakusa there is a very popular Buddhist temple , which was built in the 7th century.
Nakamise is the shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.

<Tokyo SkyTree>

Sorry the picture above  is not very clear.
SkyTree is the tallest tower in the world and the height is 634m!
There is a big shopping mall and so many restaurants.
You can visit the deck which is 350m high.

<Ueno zoo>

The zoo is the oldest zoo in Japan.
You can see so many animals! (Panda, Gorilla, Tiger and Huge Hippo etc.....)

And furthermore, there are many more places in Tokyo I have not mentioned.

If you haven't been the places, please visit there!
