As you know Kyoto is the most famous and attractive tourist place in Japan.
Lots of temples, beautiful Japanese style gardens, traditional architectures, delicious foods and sweet...etc.
My purpose of this day is to have a lunch at "SANEI "restaurant where I visit every summer for the particular seasonal food.
The restaurant is only a minute away from Hankyu Kawaramachi station, but I walked from the Hankyu Shijo station.
Let's take a look at the view on the way to the restaurant.
<Yasaka temple>
Yasaka temple is well known for the god of matchmaking.
Always crowded with people.
<Maika>
Make over place to Maiko-san.
Popular among tourists from different countries.
<Kamogawa>
Kamo river flows through the city from north to south.
It is nice to take a walk alongside of the river when the weather is fine.
Unfortunately, it was partly raining and not many people were there.
Here I am at "SANEI, " a restaurant specialized in pike conger(in summer) and soft-shelled turtle(in winter.)
Pike conger and soft-shelled turtle sound like such bizarre foods, don't they?
I guess not may people especially from other countries want to eat them.
Despite of how a pike conger looks like, it tastes good and one of the most popular summer food in Kansai area.
I ordered a lunch course of pike conger and will show you some of the dishes served in this course.
This is boiled daggerthooth pike conger with picked plum paste.
It looks beautiful, doesn't it?
You never think of ugly daggerthooth pike conger when served this dish.
This is boiled vegetables. No pike conger is used in this dish.
What a beautiful glass bowl and a wine glass!
These are the traditional hand made glass using the cutting glass technique developed in the Edo period.
<Pike conger nabe>
Nabe is similar kind of stew.
You can enjoy the soup as well as the ingredients!
There are some more dishes and a desert in this course.
How would you like to try pike conger in Kyoto?
