Hi, how is everyone?
As hot summer days continue, you sweat everywhere even in a train.
You may have seen Japanese people using a folding fan to cool down.
A folding fan is called sensu in Japanese, and used for a handy fan.
It also can be used as an accessory for Yukata/Kimono, too.
It is said that sensu is originally from a round fan called uchiwa, which was brought from China over thousands years ago.
Japanese created sensu by improving uchiwa, and it has been our useful item for a long time.
Here is my antique sensu which was made in Hong Kong before I was even born.
It is made of sandalwood and you can still smell a slight scent of sandalwood every time you use it.
I especially like its sensitive watermark-like patterns.
What is good about sensu is that you can fold it and put it in your handbag.
You can use it whenever you need.
Isn't it a good idea of ancestors?
When the scent gets week, you can add small amount of sandalwood oil.
There are many types and designs of sensu and it could be a nice Japanese gift to bring back home.
That's all for today, and see you next Tuesday!
Have a nice week!
