Salty rice malt

Hello, everyone.
How are you?
This is Rumi from Shibuya Business Garden.
How was your weekend?
Aren't you having sleepless nights thanks to the ongoing Olympic game?
The time difference sure gives us hard time if we really want to watch
a game on live. It's worth every bit your effort though:)

My topic today is not as exciting as the ongoing Olympic game.
Sorry about that.

Have you heard about salty rice malt(Shio-koji)?
It's a Japanese traditional fermented seasoning made of rice, water and rice malt, that it!!
The super simple seasoning has taken the whole nation by storm since 2011.
You can marinade any kind of meat, fish or vegetable in it. You can easily find how
tender and flavorful meat and fish become after 1 night marinade in that.
Also, as it is fermented stuff, it would condition your digestive system, improve your skin,
and is said to be effective for anti-aging to boot!!!!!

It looks not cute which was the reason I didn't dare to try
for a long time, but I got one pack of salty rice malt last week and found myself loving it!!
So far, I marinaded chicken and broccoli and result was amazing.
I sure keep buying this magical seasoning.

You can get them any supermarket in Japan these days.
Please give it a try. I promise you would like it:)

Hope you have a smooth week.

Hello, this is hitomi @ Shinjuku Business Garden.

Have you ever heard of “GOSHUIN”??

I would like to show some photos.

Don't you think these are so artistic and beautiful handwriting!
Goshuin is the proof of visit to temple and shrine.
If you visit there, monk or priest will make  it for you.
(it cost about \300....depends)

I bought a Goshuin-cho at the-first visit-shrine.
This is the book for collecting stamps as proof of visit to temple and shrine.
I felt such as stamp rally, it is so fun!!

If you visit the religious place in Japan, plz try to gather
the symbol of place.

Have you ever tried Yoshino-ya Unadon?

Hello, this is Meg from Yotsuya Business Garden.

It's a boiling hot day as a hell!

During summer time, we have a habit of eating Unadon.
Unadon consists of steamed white rice and topped with fillets of grilled eel.

It is one of most popular dishes in Japan, however it is a little bit expensive.
And this year eel is more expensive, comparing to last year.

So I tried a Unadon in Yoshino-ya.
Yosino-ya is a famous franchise chain restaurant of Gyudon.

The price is just 650 yen!
I think that the taste is not best, but it is not so bad!

Connection Forming

Hello, how are you?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

How was your weekend?
It was rainy but at least I enjoyed some heat break:)
(It was as cool as that of fall temperature)

Have you ever heard of the word connection forming?
The essence of the word is, we believe destiny would bring your partners,
especially in case of a marriage.

That's why there are so many shrines which are famous for the connection forming Gods.
The term of fate in Japanese is "GOEN" and our 5yen coin is pronounced as GOEN as well.
See the word GOEN is used in 2 senses!!
Look at the photo I took last week.

So much GOEN coins are tied on a holy place!
I hope all those prayers would be blessed with good GOEN:)

Hope you have a smooth week.

It will be cool and nice inside there!

Japnaese traditional indigo dyeing ’Aizome'

Hello, how are you doing?
This is Meg from Yotsuya Business Garden.

Recently I went to an Indigo dyeing factory in Saitama prefecture.
This factory is a small; however they have an excellent traditional technique about indigo dyeing. They mainly dye kimono fabric.

Indigo dyeing is called 'Aizome' in Japan.
In their policy, they use all natural plants, they never use chemical materials.
Almost process of works is hand maid by the skilled workman.

Unfortunately, these beautiful 'Aizome' are not famous in the world.
I suggested these kimono cloth export to Europe and United States as  fabric for making Western style dress.

However, they answered these 'Aizome' are not acceptable among people in Europe and United States.

I have been  dreaming  that some movie stars in Hollywood and world-famous singers  like Lady Gaga chose to wear these Japanese Indigo blue someday!

Japanese food 'Katsuo no tataki'

Hello, this is Meg from Yotsuya.

I go to a Japanese seafood restaurant ‘Neboke’ in Shibuya at this time of every year with my friends.
Our targeting dish in this restaurant is 'Katsuo no tataki'.

'Katsuo no tataki' is lightly grilled on the surface of sliced bonito.

Until one of my friends had took  me to this restaurant several years ago, I was not interested in eating 'Katsuo no tataki'.
However, this 'Katsuo notataki' tasted wonderful!

Now, I love Katsuo no tataki in this restaurant.
Please try it!

The Star Festival(Tanabata)

Hello, everyone.
This is Maiko Yamada from the Shimbashi Business Garden.

How did you spend on the Star Festival (Tanabata) night?
I went to Tokyo Daijingu to join Tanabata Kigansai.

People get strip of paper(Tanzaku) ,you can write your wish down as you like,
and submit it to female attendant.
I wished only one thing at this time;) I hope my wish is fulfilled.

Tokyo Dijingu is famous for fulfillment in love, so there were so many women there.
Beside the shrine, there were some kinds of paper fortune(Omikuji) such as marriage tie,
love, just normal ones. A lot of women made a long line to get these Omikuji.

It's already finished this festival, please check it next year if you are interested in it:)

Gardenia jasminoides

Hello, everyone. How are you?
This is Rumi from Shibuya Busienss Garden.

How was your weekend?
I went back to my parents' and spent a relaxed weekend.

I was happy to find my favorite flower in my parents' garden.
Ta-da--!  Gardenia Jasminoides!
Aren't they pretty?

Those white flowers look pretty themselves, but what makes me love those flowers is
their smell! It's sooo good.  The smell could put many expensive perfumes to shame.

They  bear fruits in fall and they are often used for food colouring.
They colour food beautiful yellow. My mom often use them when she cook Osechi(New year's food)

I personally prefer this kind of natural method over artificial one when it comes to food colouring.

Anyway, if you have a chance to be near this flower, please try to enjoy the smell.

Hope you have a smooth week.

Mekabu seaweed

Hello!
This is Tomoko at Shimbashi Business Garden.

How's your weekend?

I wrote about Tsukiji Market last week, but
one more thing I'd like to write this week.

I bought this at Tsukiji Market. Do you know what this is?

This is dried Mekabu seaweed.
I usually eat mekabu raw,so I was surprided and happy to find this dried mekabu.
I really like mekabu !
We can eat this plain, but a store staff recommend me to add them to boiling water and have them as a soup. Then I made miso soup with this dried mekabu. It was so good!
If you go to Tsukiji Market, why don't you try this seaweed?

See you next week.

Be worried about my clothings...

Hello, everyone. This is Maiko Yamada from the Yotsuya Business Garden.

Do you always place clothings in the sunshine?

Recently, everytime I get them in from outside,
I found that cracks of birds and insects on my clothings.

I noticed the reason is fabric softner!!!
Because of good smell, they have confused clothings with flowers, maybe.

I set "Mushi konars" or dangled CD's, however, it didn't work anyway.
I have to rewash my clothings...... (;_;)
I found the website that was being introduced "Magical Cover", which cover clothings.
It remove dust, pollen, cracks, and of course, rains, it costs around \3,000( 2.1m×1.5m ).
I think this is a little small.  What do you think?
Now, I am still thinking to buy those stuff...

Please teach me if you have good ideas:)

Hydrangea

Hello, everyone. This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
Can't you believe it is already July??  How come time is flying this fast!!

The rainy season is still there but I can feel the break is around the corner. Yey!

One thing I like this season is Hydrangea!
A rainy day suits for Hydrangea just like a suny day suits for sunflowers.

This shot is from my neighborhood.
Aren't they gorgeous?
I can stand rainy season as long as there are Hydrangea.
You can enjoy Hydrangea anywhere in Japan during this season!

Hope you have a smooth week.
