Japanese old fabric, Shiozawa Tsumugi

Hello, This is Meg from Yotsuya Business Garden.

I went to Shiozawa in Nigata prefecture last weekend.
The purpose of this trip is to learn one of Japanese old fabric, Shiozawa Tsumugi.
Shiozawa Tsumugi has started from 18th century during edo-period.

We visited Shiozawa Tsumugi Museum, and we took part in the tours and heard the explanation how to make this fabric. It wa really interesting experience for me.

I  was interested in buying Shiozawa Tsumugi Kimono, however they were a little bit expensive. So I just bought Tsumugi scarf.

Anyway, their technique is great!
Shiozawa Tsumugi doesn't have gorgeousness, but they have sophisticated beauty.

I Love Them!

Please check their web-site!

handkerchiefs

Hello, everyone. How are you?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

Do you usually carry a handkerchief in your bag?
My mom used to ask me every morning before I went to school  if I got a handkerchief and a pack of tissue in my pocket.
Back then, people considered handkerchiefs as must item to carry.

But with the spread of the air hand drier at bathrooms, people stopped carrying handkerchiefs.
After the great earthquake hit northern part of Japan, we forced to save electricity.
Many companies switched off the air hand driers in their bathrooms in order to meet governmental request
to save electricity.

It was when I started carrying a handkerchief in my bag again.

At first, I felt carrying a handkerchief was a little bit troublesome, but soon I found it's nice to
save energy with such a small effort. Now, many public bathrooms started offering the air hand
driers, but I found many people simply use their handkerchiefs!
People certainly are trying to lead Eco friendly life style!

I also found handkerchiefs are very nice in this sweaty season.
I can't go out without them anymore!!

Hope you have a smooth week.
Rumi

Japanese sweets ‘Nama-gashi’

Hello, this is Meg from Yotsuya Business Garden.

When I went to my parents’ house at my holiday,
I ate one of Japanese sweets, ‘Nama-gashi’.

It's been a while since I ate it. I LOVE it!
Have you ever tried this?

Namagashi mainly contains sweetened bean paste.
They have been eaten at the tea ceremony from the ancient.

They are beautiful and vivid colors, and they somtimes symbolize the season’s flowers or plants, lucky animals in Japan. Sometimes Japanese people feel the seasons by these sweets.

If you have a chance, please try it!

Paul Cézanne

Hello, this is Maiko Yamada from the Yotsuya Business Garden.

I have visited the exhibition of Paul Cézanne at Kokuritsu Shin Bijutsukan at Roppongi.

Do you know Paul Cézanne?
He is a painter, and he depicted a lot of  apple because of his preference and his memory of his close friend.
He is an impressionist painter and was affected by Manet, Delacroix and so on.

As I saw his productions, I found many fruits paintings for sure...
I also could see a recreated atelier there and it was really interesting.

This is a ticket of the exhibition... this is unrelated very well...

UMESHU

Hello, everyone. How are you?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

I had never realized till then that there was a Japanese apricot tree in the yard of my parents'.
It even bore bunch of apricots!!

Aren't they pretty?
You know what one should do in a case like that?
Make your hand made Umeshu( apricot liquor) with your home harvested fruits!!!

I'm planing to come back to my parents' in a month or so to pick the apricots which
should be well ripen by then. And soak them with a lot of cubed sugar and white liquor.
My hand made umeshu should be ready for drinking in half a year.
I'm so excited!! I will let you know how it would turn out:)

Hope you have a smooth week.

Hello.
This is Tomoko from Shimbashi Business Garden.

What did you do last weekend?

The rainy season has begun across Japan.
Rain made it difficult to plan outing,so I don't like this wet season.
However, we have a beautiful view during the period.

Here's my photo of Tokyo Sky Tree, the tallest broadcasting tower in Japan.
I took this at Tokyo Solamachi,a big commercial building, last rainy weekend.
The tower disappeared behind clouds !!

The rainy season usually lasts for about one month.
In a rainy day,you might see Tokyo Sky Tree like this picture.

One of formal style kimono ‘furisode’

Hello, I am Meg from YotsuyaBusinessGarden.

Do you know Japanese traditional clothes ‘Kimono’?
I think many foreigners know kimono, but how many types of kimono do you know?

This is ‘furisode’, one of formal style kimono, and it is worn by
unmarried women at a coming of age ceremony, wedding  ceremony, and formal party.

I have learned how to wear kimono by myself, and also make women to dress up in kimono.

By the beginning of Shouwa period, all women wore kimono by themselves.
However, now, it is sad fact that almost women cannot wear kimono.

I took part in a kimono show hosted by kimono school 'Hana Kyoto Kimono School' as a dresser at Keio plaza hotel.
This is not my work; one of teachers tied this obi (belt)
I thought it is the most beautiful shape in this show.

If you have a chance, please try to wear kimono!

※I got approval to publish these photos on this website.

Yomeisyu

Hello, everyone. How are you?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

Don't you feel sometimes very tired?
I felt unexplainable fatigue in May and didn't know what to do....
Should I see a doctor or get a can of redbull or just take a lot of rest...?

I went to a drug store in search for some solution and a red box caught my eyes.
It was Yomeisyu. I believe 95% of Japanese know what Yomeisyu is.
It is herbal liquor based on Chinese medicine.
It is said to be effective for fatigue, warm-up your body and improve digestive system
by smoothing blood circulation.

I bought a box expecting it would help my condition.
Look at it! Doesn't it look cool?

According to the instruction, I should take 20ml of this sake for 3 times a day.
Yes, I sincerely followed the instruction and I felt my body instantly got warmer. It works! I was sure.
But you know what??? I have an alcohol tolerance of less than a baby and was totally drunk.
I realized there is no way I can take it 3 times a day. Cry!!
But I think it is very nice to have such a natural stuff other than jump into medication when you have a problem.
Japanese folk remedies might be different from that of yours, it might be interesting to try Japanese way out sometime
if you have chance:)

Hope you have a smooth week.
