The Interesting Custom in Japan No.1 -Escalator-

Hi! This is Yuki from Shinjuku Business Garden.
How are you?
We have just started Golden week holiday in Japan!

I am going to write the blog every Sunday and I would like to write about
 "The Interesting Custom in Japan".
Today's blog is about "Escalator".

Have you visited Japan?
Have you noticed anything interesting when you take the Escalator?

There is an interesting custom in Japan, when you take the Escalator.
If you are not in hurry and would like to stay on the same step until you get to the top,
you have to stay on the left side of the Escalator.
So that people who are in hurry can just go up the steps through the
right side of the Escalator!

And even more interesting thing is that it is only in Kanto area(Tokyo, Kanagawa,,etc..)
If it is in Kansai area(Osaka, Kyoto etc..) it would be totally opposite side!
People NOT in hurry is in the right side, and people in hurry is in the left side!

Next time, when you visit Japan, please be careful about which side of the Escalator
you will take! :D

Hyuga-Natsu

Hello, everyone!
How are you doing?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

Have you ever heard about Hyuga-Natsu?
It's a kind of orange harvested mainly in Miyazaki in Kyusyu.

The uniqueness of this particular fruit is, we enjoy the white part between fruit and peel.
So you just peel it carefully just like you peel an apple.

One of my dad's friends in Miyazaki has been sending Hyuga-natsu every year of this season.
He used to buy them but now his own Hyuga-Natsu trees got big enough to bear nice fruits,
he started sending what he has harvested.
Aren't they pretty?

They have very refreshing and nice flavor.
This is the fruit always make me realize that summer is around the corner!

Hope you have a smooth week.

enjoying art around Shibuya

Hello, this is tomoko from Shimbashi Business Garden.

How's your weekend?

I went to Shibuya to see Leonardo da Vinci's art exhibition.
This exhibition is now being held until Jun 10 at Bunkamura The Museum.
(Bunkamura The Museum HP:http://davinci2012.jp/index.html)

I enjoyed seeing many pictures there and especially the exhibition of  Mona Lisa painted by different people was really interesting. Although I've visited Louvre Museum in France and saw the Mona Lisa, I didn't know that there are many paintings of Mona Lisa.

If you're interested in arts and music, you can enjoy the town around Shibuya well,I think.
We recommend Desigh Festa Gallery Harajuku, located at Harajuku, near Shibuya.
You can find this colorful building and enjoy art.

(desigh festa gallery HP:http://www.designfestagallery.com/index_en.html)

If you'd like to rent an office around Shibuya,we recommend,of course,Business Garden Shibuya.

see you next week.

Ayers Rock

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
As the golden week is getting closer, there is some festive mode everywhere.
Have you decided to do something special during the golden week?
I used to work for a company where I needed to work on holidaies and weekends.
So this year I would enjoy the golden week just like normal people do for the first time maybe in 7 years.
I bet a lot of people travel abroad during the golden week.
I LOVE travel abroad! It's really enrich your life.
I visited the Ayers Rock in December and it turned out to be the unforgettable holiday.
I took part in a sunrise tour of which starting time was 4AM!!
It was early summer in Australia but in the desert such as Ayers Rock, before sunrise was freezing.
We started the tour when outside was still in total dark, and with a hot cup of coffee in your hand,
we waited the sunrise at a nice spot.
Above was a photo I took there when the Ayers Rock shined in the Sunrise.
I almost cried because it was too beautiful.
If you are planing to visit Australia, I highly recommend you to pay a visit there.
It was worth every penny I spent:)
Hope you have a great Sunday.

Park

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.

How did you spend last Sunday?
I went to the Higashi Takane Shinrin Park near my place.
I like nothing better than visiting a park on weekend.
I think spending some time in nature definitely makes you relaxed and happy.
And it's very inexpensive leisure to boot!!!

The Higashi Takane Shinrin Park locates in Kawasaki city. The easiest access to those who don't have a car
is to go to the Mizonokuchi Station by either Denentoshi line or Nanbu-line and take a kawasaki city bus.
A bus runs ever 2 to 3 minutes so you don't need to worry about bus schedule.
It only takes you for about 5 minutes by bus to the bus stop called "Shinrin Koen-mae".

I should have brought my camera so that I could post a photo of the park, but I somehow forgot to bring my camera.
I am sorry! I wish I could show you how beautiful and peaceful the park is.
The park is famous for a lot of plants. And there are huge picnic place to enjoy.
I will definitely bring a plastic seat, a book, lunch box next time I go there.
If you are interested in the park, please check the official website of the park http://www.kanagawaparks.com/higasitakane/

Hope you have a smooth week.

SHIBAZAKURA

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
It's too bad that the sakura season is over.
But let me introduce you something as pretty as sakura is.
Have you heard about moss phlox( Shibazakura)?
It's like a usual lawn with tiny pink flowers.
When moss phlox start blossoming, the ground suddenly turn from green carpet to pink carpet.
It's so pretty and amazing to realize the pink carpet is made of bunch of tiny piece of flowers.
I took above photo when I paid a visit to the Hitsujiyama park in Chichibu 2 years ago.
The high season for moss phlox in the Histujiyama park is from early April to early May.
Chichibu is close from the center of Tokyo. I guarantee you it's worth a visit there to enjoy the pink carpet.
Hope you have a smooth week.

SAKURA (again)

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing today?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
I know you must be already fed up with my blagging about sakura all the time lately.
I am sorry but I still talk about sakura again anyway.
Please be patient;)

On last Sunday, I went to the Nakameguro to enjoy Sakura trees along the Meguro river.
The Meguro river is one of the most famou spots for sakura in Tokyo.
Thanks to the good weather, there were crazy number of people out there for sakura viewing.
Many vendors sold food and drink, so crowd got stuck around vendors.
It was a total mess to be honest, even walking required some effort so that I wouldn't knock out kids around me.
But I enjoyed the festive atmosphere and so did other people.

This spring is unusually chilly and sakura started blooming later than usual.
So we can enjoy sakura for the rest of this week.
Why don't you drop by a famous sakura spot after work?
Sakura in dark lit by lanterns is also awesome!
Hope you have a smooth week.

sakura in bloom

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing this weekend?

This weekend is the most special weekend around the year at least for me.
You know why?
Because sakura is in full bloom!!!

Despite crazy wind we got on Tuesday, Sakura miraculously held on and reached their full bloom.
Sakura is only in bloom for about a week of a year.
This short bloom period diffidently make us more appreciate sakura.

Above is a photo taken near the Shibuya Business Garden.

I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy sakura arch to get to my office.

If you haven't decided today's plan, why don't you go out and enjoy sakura as it won't hold on so long.

Hope you have a great Sunday.

LIVING JAPANESE STYLE ' HANAMI '

Hello this is masa at Shibuya Business Garden.

During the months of March and April,
many people all over Japan go out to admire the cherry
blossoms in full bloom.

Most people have their 'hanami' at lunch.
Businessmen take their lunchboxes and head out
with their collegues to picnic under the shade of
the cherry trees.

It seems everyone in Japan goes crazy talking about
the sakura, taking pictures, and having parties.

Mongolian Spot

Hello, everyone.
How are you doing today?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
I have a nephew who turned 2 last December, and whenever I see him,
I check if his heart shaped monglian spot is still on his back.
It is sooo cute.
Do you have any idea what the Mongolian spot is?
The Mongolian Spot is blues which is almost always show up on Japanese newborn baby's skin especially in bottom and thigh. Those spots are result of densed melanin pigment in deep part of skin and usually disappear by the time kids turn 5.
As for Japanese, Mongolian spots represent baby, there is an expression like, "his bottom is still green!" when we tease someone's childish behavior. This expression could be compare to " greenhorn" in English.
My foreigner friend rolled his eyes when he saw my nephew's heart shaped Mongolian Spot.
He murmured " Japan is still full of mystery......"
Well, maybe Japan is!! haha!
I hope you have a relaxed Sunday.
