Coming-of-age Day

Hello, everyone. How are you?
This is Rumi from the Shibuya Business Garden.
How was your weekend?
The second Monday of January which fell on 9th this year is a Japanese holiday called “coming -of-age-day”.
Many local governments hold a ceremony on the particular day to celebrate young women and men,
who turned or will turn 20 during last April 1st to the coming the end of March, on joining the society as grownups.
You must have seen many young women in beautiful kimono and proud parents around them, if you were out somewhere yesterday.
In Japan, 20 years old is the legal age of adulthood. You can officially drink alcohol and vote and even get married without parents' permission. Of course you will get a full social sanction as an adult if you commit a crime though.
The Coming of age day always makes me happy to see young people whose eyes sparkle with excitement!
Hope you will have a great week:)
