Stay healthy in the Rainy Season

Hi,

It's a rainy Monday morning.
It's been raining in Tokyo since last Saturday. Yep, we're in the rainy season here.

June is the rainy season in Japan, and this rainy season is one of the major features of the climate in Japan.
Japanese rainy season is characterized by a light rain but it goes on for a nearly a month long. We seldom have downpour rain like squall in the Southeast Asia, but persisting rain is actually annoying to many of us.

Bu the way, do you know what's the rainy season in Kanji (Chinese characters)?

It's written as 梅雨
梅 means Plum and 雨 means Rain.

Plum tree fruits in this time of the year, and plum is considered to have a ability of detoxification. To stay health in the rainy season, you have to be careful not to get food poisoning. Since it is very humid in this season, foods are easier to get gone off.

Pickled salty plum "Umeboshi" is naturally bactericidal and it helps foods lasting longer.

Besides the plum, vinegar was mixed in rice to keep it fresh. Japanese herbs like "Shiso" perilla and "Wasabi" Japanese horseradish are used
as the same purpose.

In the very old days when there was no electrical fridge and food poisoning was deadly, our ancestors knew how to stay healthy.

I bet all the ancients all over the world had wisdoms to keep themselves healthy. Do you know any of those in your country?

Famous spot in Tokyo

Hello, my name is Yuko, new staff of Shivuya business garden.

I'll introduce you to some famous spots in Tokyo.

One of the most famous spot in Shibuya is Hachi-koumae.

In 1924, Prof. Ueno at Tokyo Imperial University, Univ. of Tokyo at present, adopted one Akita-dog and named the dog “Hachi”.

Hachi often saw Prof. Ueno off to Shibuya station in the morning, and in the evening Hachi came to the station and waiting for him.

On May 21st of 1925, Prof. Ueno had passed away in university, but Hachi continued waiting for him around Shibuya station day after day.

The story touched the heart of Japanese people and appeared in newspaper as “ChukenHachi-kou”.

After a while, a bronze statue of Hachi was built in 1934 and Hachi was invited to the unveiling ceremony, but one year later Hachi passed away.

“See you at Hachi-koumae!”

These days, Hachi-kou statue is most common meeting point.

Japanese Accommodation vol.6 Love Hotels

A Love Hotel is a type of accommodation for exclusively for couples....

Can you guess what the main reason for the couples to stay in a room without windows??? Mmmm...I was considering this sort of topic might not be suitable for our blog, but this is actually a type of accommodation widely spread all over Japan. So I think it is not fair to omit Love Hotels in my blog entries.

Yes, you can see all kinds of love hotels in almost every downtown areas, and along the major roadways as well. Some of the hotels are designed like an castle, or a large ship, or wrapped gift box. I bet you'll find those funny...

Believe or not, the history of love hotel is very old. It can be tracked back to the Edo period when Samurai still existed, and all the Japanese were wearing kimono and the top knot hair style. Actually the origin of today's love hotels were used mostly for prostitution.

By the way, since the fee is rather cheaper compared to a regular hotel, and since no reservation required, love hotels are occasionally used by backpackers and business persons to stay, but some of this kind of hotels refuse same-sex couples and single person to stay.

If you are interested in discovering this type of hotels in Japan, you might be better check it!?
